Reading
LexiAnchor
A local-first EPUB and PDF reader shaped by a real reading need.
Test release · Apple-silicon Mac and Windows x64
Latest release: v0.1.2

Origin
I read a great deal in English. With books and other long, continuous passages, I often found it difficult to sustain attention, keep my place, and read comfortably for long periods. The difficulty was not simply a matter of understanding the words.
While trying different reading aids, I found that emphasizing the beginning of each word made it easier for me to follow a passage. I found it easier to focus, and reading felt smoother and faster. That personal experience—not a claim of a universal effect—was the starting point for LexiAnchor.
Today
LexiAnchor has become a local-first EPUB and PDF reader that I use every day. Its development follows a practical loop: I read, encounter a problem, change the tool, continue reading, and notice what needs work next.
Why it matters to me
The project brings together my reading habits, language learning, and interest in how interface details shape attention and experience. Word-prefix emphasis began with my own need; for me, it makes long English passages easier to follow and reading feel smoother. It does not mean the method has been shown to work for every reader.
What it does
- Organizes trusted, DRM-free EPUB and PDF books, reading positions, and appearance presets locally.
- Offers flexible typography, spacing, column, scrolling, and pagination controls, with optional word-prefix emphasis for EPUBs.
- Supports dictionary lookup, offline or online translation, Web search, and vocabulary cards.
- Provides export and backup options for reading data and cards.
Before you use it
Word-prefix emphasis is a personal display preference, not a treatment or a guarantee of faster reading. Offline sentence translation requires a downloaded model; online translation and Web search require a connection. Text selection in scanned PDFs requires a text layer. The current desktop builds are test releases, so read the release notes and keep backups.
